Definition: An artificially induced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible: used clinically to reduce reaction to pain, to encourage free association etc.

The word ‘hypnosis’ is derived from the Greek hypnose meaning to sleep which is inaccurate.  There are a lot of myths surrounding hypnosis and hypnotherapy generally resulting from stage hypnosis but they are just that – myths.  Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation and heightened awareness.  When hypnotised you can still hear everything going on around you but your subconscious is more susceptible to suggestion.

Hypnotherapy is essentially the treatment of emotional and psychological disorders, unwanted habits and feelings.
